Breakfast worth waking up for
Coffee, pastry, sunlight, no strategy yet
Keep breakfast short. We like starting somewhere with tiled walls, standing espresso, and a pastry that still flakes onto your coat even when you are trying to be careful.
Best one-order spot
Lunch that should not be rushed
Book the lunch you actually want. Order one cold thing, one rice thing, and something bitter if the menu offers it. This city rewards long lunch energy more than speed.
Late dinner
Something grilled after enough walking
By dinner we always want grilled fish, boiled potatoes, and a glass of vinho verde so cold it resets the whole day. It should feel almost too simple. That is the point.
Detour
A postcard shop and the long way downhill
Make time for one unnecessary stop, preferably for paper goods or tinned fish, then walk down instead of taking the tram immediately. The city gets better when you let the route keep unfolding.
